Le French Connection

At Newburn we have had many visitors from around the world. One of our friends has kindly wrote a short recommendation of the club and life in Newcastle .....

My name is Clement Rosset, I am 20 and I am from Grenoble in France. I spent my last year in England in order to get my degree. I studied a Bachelor of International Business Management at Northumbria University (Newcastle).


Before my arrival in Newcastle I was a sportive man, Judo was my favourite sport, and obviously I wanted to practice it in England again. I started my research on the net and I finally found a Judo club.


Oui, just 25 minutes by bus from Newcastle centre! Newburn Judo Club is one of the best clubs of the England north area in terms of result, but it’s a very familiar and friendly club as well. Newburn is a very typical suburb in the city of Newcastle, perfect for discovering the way of life of the Geordies (Newcastle’s resident).


So I trained myself two times per week during one year, with the competition and the possibilities of integrate the coach team, that club offer you many different opportunities: from the hobbies to the nationals’ competition!

After one year, the most difficult is to leave Newcastle and especially Newburn. In fact, more than a Judo club, Newburn is family. The father and the historical coach Joe Laws, who is a very special gentleman, it’s sure that you will spend good time with him on the tatamis and on the Newcastle pubs as well!


But there are all the other people, the parents, the others coach, the judokas, many potential friends who can help you to discover and integrate the life in England.

To conclude I really want to cheer you to practice Judo at Newburn. Last year I met people from England, France, Azerbaijan and Japan. I met a family!
