Success at Fort William & Belfast - The Club Travelled to Fort William n the Highlands of Scotland to compete in the Highland Championships with outstanding success. 13 Players made the Journey and they all returned with a Medal, winning 7 Golds 3 Silvers and 3 Bronze Medals. The Players were a credit to the Club with their performances on the Day losing only 5 contests.
Gold Medals went to Steph Rodden, Jessica Phillips, Libby Arkless, Katie Purvis, Connor Eaton, Jasmyn Wilkinson and Holly Laws. Silver medals went to Nico Giuliani, Jack Langton and Bronze Medals went to Michael Wilkinson, Emma Langton and Daniel Laws

Belfast;
There were also excellent results for us in Belfast with Courtney Shoulder and Holly Telfer wining Gold Medals,, with Tom Simpson, Gary
Keay and Heather Davis winning Bronze Medals and Adil Karakus finishing 5th.
By All accounts this was an excellent trip and a one we have our eye on for next year as we will take a larger squad
Nico Wins Silver at the English Open (March 2012) - Nico Giuliani fought amazingly to secure the silver medal at the English Open!! Well Done Nico!!!

Success @ Goole (Feb 2012) - Another successfull weekend for Newburn JC saw the players bring home 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 6 Bronze medals!! A big well done to all the players that took part!

More Medals (Feb 2012) -  More medals for Newburn at this weekends competition in St. Helens Scotland. Congratulations to all the players who performed across the two days.

Judo @ Whickham (Feb 2012) - This week see's the launch of Judo @ Whickham School. Newburn Judo Club will be running a satellite club at Whickham School & Sports College in conjunction with Premier League for Sport & Newcastle United. All students at Whickham School are welcome. First session is Friday 24th Feb @ 3:05pm. 

Goole U16/U12 (Dec 2011) -  The club ended a successful 2011, with a trip down the road to this well run event. The club returned with 7 gold's, five silvers and three bronze medals. Congratulations to the following members on their golds: Katy Purvis, Jack Langton, Courtney, and Katy Seymour, while the bronze medals were taken by Jack Curry, Connor and James. Special mention to George Gray on his performance as he fought exceptionally well according to reports... Well done to all

New Dan Grade (26th Nov) - The club would like to extend a big well done and a warm welcome to the list of Newburn Dan grades. Congratulations go to Darren May on gaining his first Dan at the Northern Area gradings today. Well done Darren from all in the club

Welsh Open Under 20's, Cardiff (30th Oct) - Three of the club members headed off to the Welsh capitol for this event. A big well done to Katy, Molly and Heather on taking medals in this event ... Molly took gold, while Katy and Heather took hard fought bronze medals ... well done ladies

British Junior Nationals, Sheffield (15th -16th Oct)The club had a fantastic weekend at the highlight of the British Junior calender. The club returned with three National Champions … Well done to Courtney Shoulder, Darren May and Stephanie Rodden on their national titles, also well done to Nico Guiliani and Jasmyne Wilkinson on there silver podium places. The club would also like to extend a big well done to the following members on gaining national bronze medals : Connor Eaton, James Arkless, Dan Laws, Katy Seymour, Molly Seymour and Holly Telfer. Big thanks go to the coaches for all their hard work and the fantastic support of parents and supporters of the club

North East Judo Open , Westgate Sports Centre, Newcastle (2nd Oct) – The club entered this very local BJC event with a large range of judoka ability from beginners to experienced players. The club was pleased to return with 13 gold's, 8 silvers and 3 bronze medals ….. Congratulations to the following members on achieving gold : George, Courtney, Stephanie, Jessica, Jasmyne, Dillon, Lauren, Megan, Alex Bell, Jack Langton, Jade, Chanelle and Lee. The following members took silvers: Charlie, Rasheem, Zali, Alex Fanshaw, Sienna, Jamie, Jay and Darren while Haji, Connor and Jack Curry took bronze. A big well done to Steve Welsh for his coaching efforts on the day and also thanks to the event organisers for putting on the event

Madeira Training Camp and Atlantic Cup – (12th-19th Sept) The club supported 12 members to this training camp and event with our friends from Club Navel do Funchal. The club took part in a weeklong training event with Judoka from Portugal, Spain and Italy.  It was a fantastic week with some high quality coaching and judo plus some very good life experiences gained by the younger members of the club. The club also took part in the Atlantic Cup and returned with 7 gold’s, 4 silvers and 2 bronze medals.  Congratulations to Kayla, Jack, Daniel, Dillon, Courtney, Molly and Jasmyne on their gold’s. Well done to following people on their silvers: John Curry, Jessica, Stephanie and Sophie and congrats to Katy and Alex Dodds on their bronze medals. A HUGE thank you to all of our friends from Madeira who made all our members, coaches and parents welcome

Heart of England, Walsall (10th/11th Sept)  - The club entered this high quality and tough event and returned with a highly respectable total of a gold, silver, three bronzes and four fifth places. The gold was taken by Courtney Shoulder (her ninth gold of the year), the silver by Nico, the three bronzes were taken by Stephenie, Jasmyn and Daniel while the fifth places were taken by Connor, Jessica, Molly and Nico (in the senior section). Well done to all those who fought in this event :)

Lakeland Open, Kendal - (20th/21st Aug) -
The club took a small team to a beautiful part of the country and a competitive event and returned with two gold's, two silvers and a bronze. Congratulations to Courtney and Stephanie on their golds, Katy and Dillon on silver and Jessica on her bronze. Special mention to Stephenie on her gold as she won four fights and its good to see her perseverance  paying off after a period of transition.... Well done to all!!

New Dan Grade (14th Aug) -
The club would like to congratulate our latest member to gain the honour of Dan grade. A big well done to Rhys Ash on gaining his black belt at the North West gradings in Rochdale from all in the club!

Kent International, Crystal Palace, London (25th/26th June) -
long journey down to the "Smoke" for this high quality event with entries from all over Europe. the club returned with a highly respectable 2 golds, two silvers and 2 fifth places.  Congratulations to Adil and Courtney on taking gold, (Adil winning 6 fights) Silvers for Jack Curry and Stephanie (Jack winning 4 fights) and fifth places to James and Dillon (both winning three fights). Also must be noted the remainder of the squad all won fights ... well done to all :)

Nottingham Junior Open, (12th June) -
The club took the trip down to Robin Hood country and returned with three gold's, a silver, three bronzes a fifth place. Congratulations go to Courtney, Katy and Dillon on their golds, Jack for taking a silver, Ben, Molly and Stephanie on their bronzes and to George on taking a fifth place. Unfortunately, George had to withdraw due to injury but we are sure he also would have returned with a medal if he had not been injured. Big thanks to the organizers  of this well run event.

Highland Open, Fort William, Scotland (21st May) -
The club took the long long road to this event (One of the buses took nine hours to get there due to a RTA) but had a fantastic time again. The club took 7 golds, 4 silvers and 4 bronzes in this annual event. The gold medalists were: Courtney, Jessica, Connor, Dillon Shoulder, Jade, Holly L and Kayla Hunter (This was Kayla's first event for over six years... well done) The silvers were taking by : Libby, Stephanie, Jasmyn and Daniel, while the bronzes were taking by Katy, Jack, James and Dillon Wilson. Well done to all and a big thanks to all the supporters who made the long trip to the Highlands

Portugal week (6th May) -
a club member spent a week with our friends from Maderia returning with a hard fought bronze. Congratulations go to Lee Storey who took part in an individual event in Braga then joined our friends from Maderia to take 7th place in the Portuguese National team event in Lisborn. Lee performed extremely well. He was only beaten by the Spainish number one in the individual event at Braga but gained revenge by beating him in the teams event. Huge thanks to all of our friends from Maderia for their support and hospitality towards Lee

Goole U19, U16 and U12's (1st May) -
The club attended this event with a good squad and returned with six golds, three silvers and three bronze podium places. Congratulations go to the following people on taking gold: Libby, Courtney, Ben, Stephanie, Dillon and Adil. (Adil won one of his contests with a fantastic throw)The silvers were taking by Jessica, Connor and James while the bronze medal takers were Megan, Katy and Jasmyn. (Special mention to Jasmyn who stepped up to the U57kg and performed really well) A big well done to all those that took part on the day

Parachute Jump, Peterlee (3rd Apr) -
Nine supporters of the club took the "Leap of Faith" by launching themselves out of a plane at 10,000 feet to raise funds for the club. The club would like to give a HUGE thank you to all those that took part and your efforts to raise funds for the club are hugely appreciated by all in the club. We are not sure how much has been raised but when we have the final figure we publish it on the site. Once again thanks to all those that jumped including the three that jumped earlier in March!

New Dan Grade (2nd Apr) -
The club would like to congratulate the latest member of the club to attain his Dan grade. Big congratulations go to Ben Irvine on gaining his Dan grade. Ben has been at the club since he was 10 years old. Well done from all in the club

Newcastle Launch Active 500 (27th Mar) -
The club took part in launch of Newcastles Active 500. The club invited members of Ashington and South Shields judo clubs to join in the fun of the programme, which aims to get as many people as possible taking part in different sports before the 2012 Olympics. The day was a roaring success many thanks to all those that attended

British Schools Championships, Sheffield (26th Mar) -
The club supported 10 members who entered this very good event via their schools and are pleased to say the they returned with one gold, one silver, three bronze medals and three fifth places. Congratulations go to Courtney Shoulder on her gold, Jasmyn Wilkinson , silver, Keiran Henderson, Jade Hamilton and George Gray on their bronzes and to Jessica Phillips, Jack Curry and Michael Wilkinson on their fifth places. Well done to all from all in the club



British Schools 2011 medal winners
Falkirk U16's and Mini Mons , Falkirk, Scotland (20th Mar) - The club attended this very good event with a mixture of experienced and novice players and returned with a very healthy haul of 4 gold's, 5 silvers and 4 bronze podium places. Congratulations go to Megan Douglas, Ben Chandler, Cameron Fox and Conor Eaton on taking gold. Also well done to Courtney Shoulder, Adam Scott, Jessica Phillips, Jack Langton and Stephanie Rodden on taking silvers and too Michael Douglas, Dillon Shoulder, Aidan Lowery and Abira Jamel on their bronze medals. Also thanks go to Steve Welsh and Lee Storey on their coaching throughout the day

The club are pleased to congratulate one of our rising stars on gaining Sport Newcastle's Rising Star Award. A huge well done to Darren  May on gaining the prestigious award from all in the club. We are sure you wil go onto do great things in judo

Primary School Development Programme (7th Mar) - the club are pleased to announce that we have secured funding to run a 4 week development judo course involving 10 local primary schools. The club will be working with year groups 3, 4, 5 and 6 at the schools which we will then invite the children to take part in a judo festival at the club. Dates to follow

North West Seniors, St Helens (6th Mar) -
The club entered a small group of seniors into this event and returned with a bronze and two fifth places.  Congrats go to Emma Langfton on her bronze and to Steve Lowis and Lee Storey on their fifth places. A special mention to Nico who was unfortunately disqualified when he was just getting into his stride... well done guys

Wish Tokens, Evening Chronicle (28th Feb) -
The club is pleased to announce that it came second in the Newcastle Evening Chronicles £50,000 wish token collection fund and it was awarded £1,168 to support the club in its aims of developing judo within the community. Many thanks to all those people who collected, counted, cut out and pasted into the books your efforts were worth while!!
 

Fundraising weekend (25th + 27th Feb)
the club took part in a FUNdraising weekend with a difference from your normal bag packing event. The club organised a social evening at a local club which involved a tribute act do the FULL MONTY..... we understand everyone had a great time and raised £280 towards club funds. The second event was a WOW ... 13 (Brave / Foolhardy.. delete as appropriate) people put themselves forward to take a giant step out of a plane at 10,000 ft to raise funds for the club.... unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions only three people managed to get into the air... but the remaining people will be taking the leap of faith on the 3rd April. Well done to Michelle, Mark and Tracey on completing the jump ....Geronimo!!

Club Visitors (21st - 26th Feb) the club was pleased to welcome two guest judoka to the club and to the North East. Edu Carballeira (Spain) and Carlos Pereira (Maderia, Portugal) spent the whole week with the club working with all the members of the club of all ages and abilities. Both guys were an absolute joy to work with and a pair of real gentlemen plus their judo was excellent.. Once again guys a big thank you from all the members of the club!!

North West Aged Banded, St Helens. (19th/20th) - The club attended this ranking junior event band returned with a highly respectable gold, silver and two bronzes. Congratulations go to Molly Seymour on taking gold (winning five contests), Darren May on his silver and to Holly Telfer and Adil Karakus on taking hard fought bronzes. A big well done to all those that took part but were unsuccessful... the club is very proud of all of you

Ultimate Judo Open, Meadowbank International Stadium (13th Feb) -
The club took to the high road to bonny Scotland for this very good event and were very successful. The club returned with 12 medals from 12 competitors (three gold's, five silver and four bronze). A big well done to George, Dillon and Courtney on taking gold. Congrats to Adil, James, Amanda, Katie and Lee on achieving silvers and to Ben, Libby, Jasmyn and Jade on their bronze medals. You are all a credit to the club! Well done!

Cumbrian Senior Team Event, Carlisle (13th Feb) - The club attended this team event as defending  champions. We are pleased to say that the club retained the cup with some excellent judo being displayed throughout the day by everyone. Congratulations to Steve, Nico, Ben Darren and Rhys on their perfomances. Also well done to Northumbria University Team (a sister club) on their performances which give great hope for its future development. Well done, Patrick, Lee, Muzzy, Steve and Scott.



Cumbrian Team Winners 2011

Women's Judo Sessions (5th Feb) -
The club are pleased to announce that the club will be starting a womens beginners session on Monday 7th Feb running for six weeks. The sessions will be lead by a female coach and we would like to thank the Community Foundation for a grant of £1000 from its Grassroots fund which has enabled the sessions to take place.

Great Britain Junior Selection (2nd Feb) -
Good news has reached the club that one of the members has been selected to the GB Junior squad. Congratulatrions go to Nico Guiliani on his selection for the squad. It is a great achievement for Nico and and we are all really proud of him. Well done big man! Nico becomes the eleventh club member to be selected to a squad he joins: Molly Seymour, Katy Seymour, Stephen Telfer, Holly Telfer, Dan Laws, Dillon Shoulder, Darren May, Adil karakus, Megan Evans and John Anderson who has been selected for the VI squad.

Midland Open, Walsall, Birmingham (29th/30th Jan)
- The club attended this high quality identification event and returned with 4 golds, a silver, two bronze and three fifth places. Congratulations go to Nico, Darren, Dillon and Courtney on taking gold and a big well done to Jade on taking silver. Also, congratulations to Jasmyne and Jessica on their bronze medals and  also to Jack, Molly and Katy on taking highly respectable fith places. Well done to the rest of the squad who also performed extremely well!

New Coaching Awards, Tynemouth, (15th Jan)
- The club are pleased to announce that the following people have gained their level two coaching awards. Congratulations go to: John Curry, Steve Welsh, Patrick Tucker and Holly Laws on gaining this qualification. This brings the total to eight level two coaches, three level 1 coaches and a club instructor within the club. Special congrats go to John Curry who has become the Northern Areas Boys squad coach.

Skydiving Fundraiser (15th Jan) - The club would like to announce that 14 brave people will be taking part in a SKYDIVE to raise funds for the club. They will be jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet at Peterlee on the 27th of February. If any person would like to sponsor these people (mad) please contact Joe on 07762 817 584 or via newburnjudo@hotmail.co.uk We are sure this will be a great event and safety will be paramount but IF a chute does not open we are sure the judo breakfalls will come in handy!.......not!
